About

Beautiful, raw, inspiring and heartfelt, are some of the words used to describe Abby Feferman's inimitable fusion of smooth pop, rock, and folk melodies, and powerful lyrics that have captivated many listeners.

Born and raised in Skokie, Illinois, Abby Feferman began writing her own songs at age seven, and bought her first guitar at age twelve. Music has always been an important part of Abby's life. As a child, she listened to and was inspired by pop and rock music from the 1960’s and 1970’s. A diversity of artists, including Carole King, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, and James Taylor helped ignite Abby’s passion for music and continue to inspire her today.

During her teenage and college years, Abby focused on honing her talents in songwriting, singing, and music. She studied guitar and voice one-on-one with local instructors, and then spent three years at the highly-regarded Old Town School of Folk Music. While at Old Town, Abby participated in many group performances with other music students and local musicians in a variety of genres, including The Music Explosion's "Little Bit 'O Soul" and Simon and Garfunkel's “59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy).”

In 2008, Abby built a recording studio in her home and started recording demos. It was in this studio that Abby recorded her first single, “Inside Out,” which was released in 2010. Fans described the song as "beautiful" and noted the "lovely depth" of Abby’s music. Soon after, Abby began performing at weekly Open Mic Nights at a local coffee house. In 2012, Abby began recording at Chicago’s Mystery Street Recording Company (Iron and Wine, The Polkaholics). Her first official music project "Blur," recorded and co-produced with Mystery Street studio owner Joe Tessone, was greeted with excitement by fans. Listeners described Abby’s vocals as “inspiring” and “heartfelt,” with lyrics that “enthrall,” “engage,” and “keep [you] coming back for more.”

In 2014, Abby revisited some songs she started years ago and focused on writing new material, as well. In 2015, she began working on recording new music with well-known Gravity Studios (Buddy Guy, Bon Jovi)  in Chicago. There she worked with much of their notable team, including music producer and recording & mixing engineer Doug McBride (Veruca Salt, Smashing Pumpkins) and music producer and recording & mixing engineer Dan Farnsworth. Her new EP, "Dear One," was released in February 2016. Songs from “Dear One” have been included on the Existing and Occurring Talent Playlist on Spotify and on the JogTunes Indie Podcast on iTunes.

Abby's lyrics are musical poetry, and she finds her true expression through song. Abby's powerfully intimate music transports and inspires listeners with the joy of shared song.
